Hawks prep for football playoffs

CHARLOTTE – The West Mecklenburg High Hawks have their football postseason spot locked up.

Who the Hawks (7-2, 3-2 in So. Meck 8 4A conference) will face in the playoffs, however, is yet to be determined. So is West Mecklenburg’s final record.

The Hawks conclude the regular season Nov. 8 against Harding University. West Mecklenburg dropped a 29-13 decision to Charlotte Catholic on Oct. 25, the Hawks’ second loss in October.

Providence High upended West Mecklenburg 31-27 on Oct. 4, but there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic despite the two setbacks.

Running back Shaun Wilson and quarterback Jalan McClendon have terrorized opposing defenses this season.

A strong finish to the regular season could earn the Hawks, who made a surprising run in last year’s playoffs, a favorable match-up in the first round of this year’s postseason.
