Davilia earns NCHSAA honor

BELMONT – Garrett Davila, of South Point High School, was a winner of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week award.
Davila, a senior left-handed pitcher for the Red Raiders, threw his sixth shutout of the season last week, holding East Gaston to just two hits in a 6-0 victory.
He went the distance on the mound, striking out 11 while walking two. Davilia also supported the South Point cause at the plate with two hits and three RBIs.
Davila has signed with the University of Tennessee but is also drawing a number of professional baseball scouts at each game.
Davilia is projected by Fangraphs.com as a third- or fourth-round pick in June’s MLB draft. Perfect Game rates the lefty as the state’s No. 8 pitcher and the 238-ranked player in the nation.
