Hawks’ relay stars at girls track challenge

CHARLOTTE – The West Meck girls track and field team was ignited by its 4×100 relay team, who took first place at the Girls Only Challenge on April 17 at Butler.
The Hawks 4×100 relay team of Jhetaime Lacan, Jada Slaten, Tatayanna Campbell and Diondra Broner finished in 49.02 seconds to take gold.
Slaten also placed fourth in the 300 hurdles, finishing in 49.26 seconds.
Campbell and Broner battled in the 200 as Campbell placed third with a time of 26.20 seconds, and Broner was fourth with 26.25 seconds.
Overall, the Hawks finished ninth with 36 points.
While the girls were competing at Butler, the boys were taking part in the Dick Williams Relays, which were held the same day at East Meck.
Emmanuel Daniels was the lone Hawk to secure a top eight finish as the junior placed third in the 400 with a time of 50.79 seconds.
